MBU Capital acquired Union Bank PLC. This report was commissioned by the latter to identify the feasibility of penetrating the UK and potentially long-term International SME market. The report addresses key market characteristics, the attractiveness of the SME landscape, competitive challenger banks, customer demographics and opportunities that can be exploited in the SME segment. As outlined in the report, the market itself is viable; SMEs account for 99.9% of all UK enterprises, globally, SMEs are responsible for around $850 billion of annual revenue for banks, and only 25% of UK SME owners feel supported by their banks. Union Bank’s hybrid digital relationship model also enhances the firm’s competitive position.
